What are you looking for when hiring a DJ?

Because you want your party to be a huge success, it is important to know what to look for. We have listed a few DJ Hire tips to help you making the right choice.

10 DJ Hire Tips

1. Use personal experience or seek for good recommendations from trusted sources.

2. Make use of the internet. Look for DJ companies with experience, recommendations and testimonials. Disco companies' websites often contain videos, so you can see what the Disco will look like.

3. Don't always go for the cheapest option, you might get let down. When choosing a DJ go for skills, styles, quality, knowledge and experience. You want your Disco to look stunning and your DJ to be skilled. Your event is too important to just select on cheap price.

4. Look for a DJ Company with a large DJ roster. They will always have the right DJ to suit your party or event.

5. Make sure the DJ will be using top quality equipment and lighting. Sound and lighting is the most important factor for making your party a success.

6. Use a company that offers back up DJs. If the DJ is ill or can't get to the event, make sure the company you hire has a high quality replacement who can get to you in short time of space.

7. Make sure the DJ has a wide variety of music and good knowledge of the music they have.

8. To make sure you get the DJ of your choice, book on time!

9. Ask the DJ company for their ideas. They are entertainment specialists, ask if they have any suggestions for your event. A professional DJ company may have suggestions that could enhance your initial ideas and create unique, memorable and personal touches that will provide maximum enjoyment for your guests.

10. Send in a playlist so the DJ gets an idea of the music you like. However don’t over do it, 20-30 tracks is about right. 100% playlists don't work.

iPod vs Professional DJ

iPod vs Professional DJ

You're getting married, have already spent too much and need to cut down on costs. You are thinking of replacing the DJ for an iPod but is this really such a great idea? And how much would you actually save?
If you are thinking of using an iPod you will have to find someone who is willing and confident enough on the mic to do announcements and can get your guests going. Someone who takes requests, reads the crowd and plays the right tune at the right time. You might want to take a moment to realise what consequences using an iPod has and if this is worth it for you.
What happens if someone asks for a request or you would like your favourite song played right now? Scrolling through a list of songs while there's an awkward silence at your Wedding Reception is maybe not the ideal idea of a great party. It's also more than likely people's requested songs are not on the iPod (this can be a good thing in some cases;-)

Is it fair to expect your friend to be a 'crowd reader', presenter and the one that lets your Wedding Reception flow while it takes a DJ years of experience to get to that point? Is it worth the risk of having a dissappointing evening with friends and family leaving early on which should be your best night ever? What happens if the sound system stops working or you blow a speaker?

You should be able to get a professional DJ with good basic equipment for a few hundred pounds. They come packed with the professionalism gathered by years of experience, large music collection for every age group and understanding of what it takes to make a great, enjoyable, memorable Party. Renting a sound system will still cost around £200 and don't forget you need someone to set it up too. For maybe £100 more you will get the DJ with it and a guaranteed enjoyable party without awkward silences and stress.
If you want to save money why not let one of your friends bake the cake, make your own invitations or decorate the room yourself. If we may give any advice make sure you save on something that won't have any influence on the atmosphere of the day.
If you would decide to go for the Professional DJ, make sure you find one that suits your wishes and type of party. A good tip is to read the DJ's profile, the music genres they play and ask for reviews from previous customers.
